Ta' Cenc Cliffs: My Favourite Place for Sunsets in Gozo

Ta’ Cenc Cliffs

In short: Ta' Cenc Cliffs

Is it worth the trip?
Yes, my favourite sunset viewpoint in Gozo. Not too complex to reach. Very few people around.

The basics:
Easy parking at the hotel. 10 min (flat) walk. Suitable for all ages.

Reality check:
No barriers at the cliff edge. Watch children. No shade on the path. Temperature drops fast after sunset.

What I do: I take bus 305 from Victoria to Sannat and arrive 45 minutes before sunset. I walk the little path that starts from the hotel's parking lot. I find a spot near the edge and watch the sunset.

Directions

You either go by Bolt or take bus 305 from Victoria and exit at Sannat, the village next to the cliffs.

From the bus stop you just walk another two minutes to get to the parking lot of Hotel Ta' Cenc.

If you go by car, you can park here and walk the remainder (blue line). The terrain is mostly flat and I believe that even elderly would be able to walk it easily.

Flora

You will find a beautiful ecosystem of shrubs, thyme and colourful wildflowers that only grow around Malta’s cliffs.

I always ask myself how they sustain the harsh wind conditions in autumn and winter.

Birds

The cliffs are home to different bird species: E.g. the Peregrine Falcon and Cory’s Shearwaters.

Cart Ruts

You can find ancient cart ruts on the plateau. These mysterious parallel lines are carved into the limestone and historians are still debating their origins.

Some believe date them back to the Bronze Age and others suggest they were made by prehistoric settlers.

The best time to explore Ta' Cenc is during off-season, from October to April. I always go in the late afternoon to avoid the heat and be at the cliffs at sunset.
